President Jonathan Forbids PDP To Contest Buhari's Victory

President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may have impressed it upon his party, the PDP not to contest the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari in the just-concluded elections from last Saturday.

In a report from The Nation newspaper, the president said instead of a Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal, he will be raising a Transition Committee on Tuesday.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president-elect may head the APC arm of the team to join the committee. President Jonathan is quoted as saying: ‘I don’t believe in post-election petition at tribunal because it distracts the incoming administration’.

The Nation reports that “He also said Nigeria must emulate other nations where once the presidential poll is lost and won, the new government must not be distracted with election petitions.

“He told party leaders that he was not interested in going to the tribunal. It is now left for PDP leaders to heed his advice. So as at Thursday, the government’s position is that the PDP should not go to tribunal. Ministers have started writing their handover notes, we read.
