Rivers state governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike flags off operation zero potholes in Port Harcourt

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has flagged off the reconstruction of Port Harcourt roads to ease traffic in the state capital.

Governor Wike performed the flag off of the road reconstruction programme tagged : "Operation Zero Potholes ", after inspecting the guard of honour at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The flag off of the Operation Zero Potholes took place at three locations, namely Borokiri, UTC Junction and Azikiwe in Diobu.

Nigerians will not regret giving us their mandate - President Buhari

During his inaugural speech, President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigerians will not regret giving his administration their mandate. He appreciated the immediate Past President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat during the election. On Boko Haram, he said this will be tackled head on. He said the group is a group of small fire causing a big fire. He said the Command and Control center of the Nigerian Army will be in Maiduguri Borno state until Boko Haram is defeated.

He said his government will do everything within its power to rescue the Chibok girls. He said the Federal government will commission a study that will determine the origin, sponsors and foreign collaborators of Boko Haram once they have been subdued.

During President Buhari's inauguration speech,he addressed his plans to tackle Boko Haram. He noted that, the Armed Forces can not fight Boko Haram from Abuja ..So, the Command center will be moved to Maiduguri,Borno state until Boko Haram is eradicated..

He also promised to secure the release of the Chibok girls and those held in captivity, and described Boko Haram as a mindless group far away from Islam.

He also said,there will be no paying of old scores. The past is prologue..

1. I welcome you all to this occasion of the formal presentation of the Hand-over notes of my Administration to the in-coming Administration of the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.

2. This event and tomorrow’s inauguration of a new administration are truly historic as it is the first time in the history of our nation that we are witnessing the democratic and orderly transfer of power at the Federal level from one political party to another.

I’m a middle-aged woman. I currently reside in Bwari Area Council of the FCT- Abuja. I’m a member of one of the new generation churches, and a church worker.After my first Son was born over 25 years ago, we stopped having other issues. My husband and I had visited several prayer houses around the country. We have even being to Synagogue Church

of All Nations, to see TB Joshua, but we couldn’t see him in person. Different Pastors have prayed for us, and we truthfully exhibited high level of patience, waiting for God’s response. I had met pastors and I had met PASTORS. 40 percent of the pastors we met had made advances at me, even at my age. I realized that most of these Pastors are truly not who they claim they are. ‘’See finish’’ is what I think was my experience in their hands. I do not need to talk too much about the anointed ones, but the warning is that we all have to be careful while dealing with majority of them.

A female student in Kenya has revealed that she has infected a total of 324 men with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The HIV positive girl, who attends the Kabarak University in Nakuru, is said to have been infected by a man at a party. The Nigeria Army at the Rukuba Barracks in Jos, Plateau State, has dismissed about 200 soldiers from service for their failure to capture the Sambisa Forest, a notorious hideout for Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.They were dismissed for laxity and cowardice in the course of duty.

According to Vanguard,one of the affected soldiers, Aguloye Sunday, an indigene of Ondo State, who confirmed the dismissal to journalists in Jos, said they were arraigned on a two-count charge of “failure to perform military duty and disobedience to standing order.”

He, however, argued that they would seek redress in court as the charges pressed against him and his colleagues were “untrue, false and malicious.”

Marilyn Tigas, head of the country's Department of Social Welfare and Development DSWD provincial office in Bataan, the Philippines, said that the images were taken while her son and his cousin were mimicking animals.

Boko Haram Attacks Gubio Town In Borno state, 43 People Confirm Dead

At least 43 people have been reported dead after Boko Haram attacked Gubio town in Borno State. Punch reports that the terrorists’ invasion lasted for 5 hours and that a convoy of around 50 insurgents stormed the town.
Although the incident occurred on Saturday, news sources are only just reporting it today. Sources say details of such attacks often take a number of days to surface outside of the affected areas due to poor telecommunications in the area.
Eyewitness, Mallam Yusuf Mohammed, told newsmen that over 400 houses were burnt down by the insurgents. Another eyewitness said, “They came, shooting, threatening to kill everybody. They set fire on many houses, burnt down our peoples’ vehicles and motorcycles. We lost 43 people including two children.”

President Goodluck Jonathan, has approved the appointment of Mr Kashim Akor, as the Director-General (DG) of the National Productivity Centre (NPC).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Mr Samuel Olowookere, Deputy Director Press, Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

In the statement, Olowookere said that the President’s approval was contained in a letter of appointment signed by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Joel Ikenya.

Pres. Elect General Buhari Is Expected To Be Back To The Country Tomorrow

President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari who is currently in the UK on a private visit, will be returning to Nigeria tomorrow May 28th ahead of his inauguration as President on Friday May 29th.

According to Thisday, Buhari will arrive Nigeria on-board a British Airways flight scheduled to land at about 4am tomorrow in Nigeria. He'll arrive in company of former President Shehu Shagari who is currently in the UK on a private visit as well.

Buhari overthrew Shagari who is Nigeria's first Democratically elected President, in 1983. During his six day visit to the UK, Buhari met with UK Prime Minister David Cameron where both men felicitated with each other on their victories at the poll.

President Jonathan Recieve Peace Award, Speaks On Why He Conceded Defeat

President Goodluck Jonathan was on Tuesday honoured with another award of “Peace Loving Global Citizen” for his decision to accept the result of the 2015 Presidential poll.
The award was presented to the President by the Universal Peace Federation(UPF) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, President Jonathan urged the incoming administration to accept the contributions of all Nigerians to the progress and development of the country.

Tambuwal hands over to Ihedioha and bows out of House of Reps

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, bowed out on Tuesday after handing over the leadership of the legislature to his deputy, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha, who will round off the tenure of the House on June 5.

Tambuwal, who is the Governor-elect for Sokoto State, will be inaugurated on May 29 as governor.
His decision to transfer power to Ihedioha ahead of the May 29 handover date was to avoid a possible constitutional crisis of taking oath of office for two separate offices.

While he will be inaugurated as governor on May 29, his current tenure as a member of the House will end on June 6.

Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi says the governor elect of his state, Nyesom Wike cannot accuse him of being corrupt and wanting to probe him because according to him "a thief cannot call me corrupt". Wike had on Monday said in a press release that he will be probing Governor Ameachi once he assumes power as Governor on Friday May 29th.

The police in Lagos have arrested five suspected members of a robbery gang which unleashed terror on residents of Ijanikin area on Sunday, May 24.
One of the robbery suspects, 25-year-old Ajayi Solomon, told PUNCH Metro that he went into armed robbery because his parents were late and he needed to take care of his siblings.

Solomon, who hails from Oto-Awori, Badagry, said the gang had planned the robbery while they drank and smoked at the Egun festival. He added that he had five siblings which he took care of with the proceeds of robbery.

In preparation for its final handing over to the incoming administration, the Federal Executive Council, FEC, will be formally dissolved today.

The session which will be headed by President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to witness a formal speech by the President, where he notes his achievements while in office since May 29, 2011.

Ministers are also expected to make speeches on their experiences under President Jonathan. The meeting which is expected to start at 11am today will give each minister an opportunity to share their experience while in office.

The new Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, have appealed to Nigerians not to give bribe to policemen even if they ask of it saying, it takes two to tango and Nigerians shouldn’t be part of it. He made the statement today in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists during a meeting with senior officers on the issue of whether or not bail was free.

“We have a zero tolerance for payment of money to free suspect. I am appealing to members of the public, not to corrupt my men; It takes two to tango. If they ask you for bribe and you refuse to give, and you have avenues where your grievances can be ventilated, I do not see any reason why you should give them bribe.

Niger State governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, while commissioning a N620 million 3-star hotel developed by the Niger State Development Company Limited, NSDC, and the State Sure-P asked the Federal Government to deregulate the oil sector by removing subsidy on petroleum products.

He added that the removal of the subsidy would reduce the black market system, thus allowing free and regular flow of petroleum products to all parts of the country.

He argued that the subsidy on petroleum product is currently being enjoyed by only a select few who have the necessary connections to the importers.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state shocked many when he suspended Mr. Alhassan Mohammed for two months few minutes after swearing him in as Chairman, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.Mohammed was sworn-in as the new chairman, following the death of the former chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Hassan Kadiri, last Friday.Immediately after swearing him in today,the governor suspended him for two months..

Speaking Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony, the Governor said:

“I have just performed the task of swearing in the vice chairman of Etsako West Local Government as the substantive chairman of the local government following the death of the chairman, Alhaji Hassan Kadiri who passed away last week Friday.

A group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, has instituted a fresh suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to stop the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, from swearing the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday.
The suit filed on Tuesday is also seeking an order nullifying the certificate of return issued to Buhari by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to Punch, the plaintiff hinged the suit on the allegation that Buhari did not qualify to contest the presidential election on the grounds that he gave false information about his academic qualification to INEC.

One Ajayi Olatunbosun has been arrested by the police for allegedly hiring thugs to pour acid on his ex-wife, Bamidele Otakiti, in her shop on Adejobi Street in the Ajasa Command area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that all had been well between the couple since they moved to Lagos in 2005 until a few months ago when a disagreement soured their relationship.The quarrel was said to have led to their separation in February, 2015.

It was learnt that the suspect, prior to the divorce, had on several occasions accused Otakiti of adultery.
Our correspondent gathered that despite his discontent with the alleged act, the 47-year-old commercial motorcycle rider (okada rider) had pleaded with the woman not to divorce him.
It was learnt that Otakiti bore three children for Olatunbosun.

Why Boko Haram rape victims should not abort pregnancies-Catholic Bishops

There has been a lot of controversy regarding the fate of women raped and impregnated by Boko Haram members .While some groups have said they should abort the babies, others have said the women should not.

The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria has out rightly condemned those suggesting abortion. Chairman of the Health Committee of CBCN and Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja (Catholic Archdiocese), Most Rev. Anselm Umoren, stated this during a press conference on Monday in Abuja.

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church, who has made waves of connections reaching out to disaffected Catholics and insisting on making the poor a top priority, hasn't watched TV since July 15, 1990, he revealed in an interview published in the Argentinian newspaper La Voz del Pueblo.

The pontiff did not reveal why he gave up watching TV, except to say he decided it wasn't for him, before promising the Virgin Mary he wouldn't watch again.
