Chadian aircraft 'bomb Borno town in anti-Boko Haram raid'

Chadian aircraft today Saturday Jan. 23rd bombed the town of Gamboru in Borno state in a raid targeting Boko Haram, security sources told AFP. The AFP report below...

An initial raid was carried out around midday by two fighter jets on the town in Nigeria's far northeast along the Cameroon border, sources from Chad and Cameroon said on condition of anonymity.

It was followed by further bombings of areas around the town, Chadian sources said. The raids were aimed at "allowing Chadian soldiers to enter Gamboru," a Cameroon security source told AFP.

Army Officers Write Open Letter To Jonathan, Urge Obama, Ban-ki Moon To Intervene In Anti-Terror War

The officers who authored the letter said they were initially reluctant to air their grievances in the open in order not to boost the morale of insurgents, but added that troops fighting Boko Haram, a terrorist Islamist sect that has seized a significant swathe of territory in Nigeria’s northeast zone, have been equipped poorly.

In addition, the officers accused Mr. Jonathan of condoning the looting of funds meant for the war against the insurgents. They specifically alleged that “Chief of Training and Operations, Major General J.A.H. Ewansiha” was a major looter of security funds. Nigeria Records Impressive Growth in e-Payment Systems

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele says the country has recorded an impressive growth in the electronic payments system in the last eight years.

Emefiele said this at the inauguration of the payments system strategy board, payment scheme boards and initiative working groups on Friday in Lagos.

He said that the CBN's efforts to ensure that Nigerians move away from cash economy had been progressive, particularly through the Cash-Less programme.

More than 10 senior Nigerian Army officers, including a Brigadier-General have been arrested and are telling the military hierarchy what they know about the Baga attack by the insurgent group, Boko Haram.

According to the Director of Defence Information, Major-General Chris Olukolade, the senior army officers are being investigated for allegedly shirking their responsibilities during the attack by the militants.

Those arrested are Brigadier-General Enitan Ransome-Kuti, his Chief of Staff Lt. Colonel G.A Suru. Others are the Commanding Officer of 134 and 174 battalions, Lt. Colonel Haruna and a certain Major aliyu.

Oshiomole’s Commissioner Defects To PDP, Others To Follow

Edo State Commissioner for Investment and Public/Private Partnership, Dennis Idahosa, Friday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Idahosa, who joined the PDP along with some leaders of the APC in Ovia South West Local Government Area of the State, was received into the PDP by the state Chairman, Mr Dan Orbih. He said his defection was a prelude to his resignation as commissioner, which would follow soon.

Nigeria 2015: Buhari's Wife Calls For Peaceful Elections

Mrs Aisha Buhari, Wife of All Progressive Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), has urged Nigerian women to work towards ensuring peaceful elections in February. She made the call on Friday in Yola while addressing an APC Women Presidential Campaign Initiative town hall meeting.

Buhari, who was represented by Mrs Zainab Nyako, said women had a critical role to play towards a peaceful election and victory of APC at all levels. It is also imperative for us to educate our party members on peaceful conduct before, during and after elections.

I had a very verbal phone conversation with Niger Delta militant terror leader, Asari Dokubo today.

In the heated conversation that lasted over 20 minutes, the pro-Jonathan militant was non repentant and aggressively supported his campaign for the continued reign of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

I told him that at a time I had respected him (Dokubo) but now he has lost all my respect; asking how much money would make him support a killer leadership. I asked how insensitive he was witnessing how Jonathan’s corruption had undermined the army and how the president’s failures (not complying with the Paris summit agreement to station 700 troops to defend the border) directly led for instance to the death of over 2500 defenseless Nigerians at Baga.

Yesterday, an unfortunate incident of a man who jumped over the 3rd mainland bridge went viral. Many wondered what prompted him to make that move..According to Punch, the man, identified as Okechukwu Ezeigbo, has drowned in the Lagoon after taking a dive from the top of the Third Mainland Bridge on Thursday.

The Imo State indigene was said to be among several passengers in a commercial bus heading towards Obalende, on the Lagos Island area of Lagos State, when the incident happened.

Punch Metro learnt that the victim suddenly asked the driver of the bus to stop and before anyone could realise what was going on, he hurriedly put off his shoes and took a dive into the Lagoon.

President Goodluck Jonathan has admitted the criticism by Governor Rotimi Amaechi that his government has not done anything for the people of Rivers State.

Jordan 'says it will hang all ISIS captives' if group kills Jordanian pilot captured in Syria

Jordanian pilot First Lieutenant Mu'ath Safi Yousef al-Kaseasbeh was captured by ISIS militants in December after his plane was shot down while he was conducting airstrikes over Syria. Now Jordan has threatened to kill all ISIS prisoners in their country if Mu'ath is killed by ISIS.

Ohaneze Ndigbo, a pan-cultural Igbo organization has called on T.Y Danjuma to face Boko haram instead of calling for the arrest of leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari; Victor Ben Ebikabowei, aka, Boy Loaf; and Government Ekpudomenowei, aka, Tompolo.

A statement issued by Joe Nworgu, publicity secretary of Ohaneze read, ''They should prevail on all those behind the insurgency in the North to stop. Let them do that and not to call for the arrest of people who are merely issuing verbal threats.
