Ondo State monarch’s wife killed after family pays N2M ransom
The abducted wife of the Oba Lumure Ayelomi of Ayeka in the Okitipupa area of Ondo State, Olori Dupe has been found dead 10 days after she was reportedly kidnapped. The Olori’s corpse was found at a meeting point where her family was to drop the ransom, Vanguard reports.
The kidnappers were initially said to have demanded a ransom of N30 million but accepted N2 million after pleas made by the family.

Another AirAsia plane carrying 153 people overshoots runway in Philippines
Two days after an AirAsia airliner carrying 163 people plunged into the sea, another one carrying 153 passengers overshot the runway at an airport in the Philippines today December 30th, forcing passengers to disembark the aircraft on emergency slides.

Coup attempt foiled in The Gambia
There was a failed coup attempt by presidential guards in The Gambia today Dec. 30th. According to reports, some presidential guards stormed the presidential palace in Banjul, the country’s capital and shot sporadically in the air. The whereabouts of Gambia’s president, Yahya Jammeh is said to be unknown but many believe he is in Paris or Dubai. An army source who spoke to AFP said the attackers had been completely warded off and the situation has been brought under control.
Lagos: Car Mechanic Stabs Man for Pinging While Driving, Then Robs Him
IJAIYE, LAGOS - Olajide Olaniran, a car mechanic, has stabbed a 34-tear old man, Julius Joseph for allegedly pinging while driving, PUNCH is reporting. The paper reports that Joseph was returning from the bank when his car was blocked by Olaniran's Toyota Corolla.
Joseph said he was checking an alert on his phone at the time, but Olaniran said he was pinging and driving. Joseph on the other hand accused the mechanic of driving against traffic and both men came down from their vehicles for an altercation.

Cameroon Army Kills 41 Boko Haram Fighters
Cameroon’s army has killed at least 41 Islamist militants as it fought off a wave of attacks along its border with Nigeria in an escalation in the conflict, the government said. The Information Minister, Issa Tchiroma, disclosed this in Yaoundé on Monday.
Tchiroma said that the coordinated assaults on five towns and villages showed a change in tactics by Nigerian Boko Haram fighters, who have focused on hit-and-run raids on individual settlements in the past.

Wreckage’ of missing AirAsia jet is spotted in sea by search plane
Looks like the AirAsia flight that went missing early yesterday morning may be at the bottom of the sea. Indonesian officials say a search plane hunting for the missing plane have spotted objects in the sea believed to be wreckage from the plane which was carrying 155 passengers and 7 crew members.

Renowned jazz clarinettist Buddy DeFranco, known for working with Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday and other well-known musicians, has died aged 91. DeFranco's family said the musician died on Wednesday evening at a Florida hospital.
His wife, Joyce, said his health had been poor in recent years. DeFranco, a member of the American Jazz Hall of Fame, performed at venues around the world for 75 years and also recorded many albums.

Nigeria Is No 1 World’s Largest Yam Producers
A Geneticist at the University of Ibadan, Dr Morufat Balogun, on Sunday said Nigeria produced 70 per cent of the yam grown annually and globally.
Balogun, who is also a researcher at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan. She said while Nigeria grew 70 per cent of yam annually, other countries shared the remaining 30 per cent.

Everyday is for the theft but one day is for the owner of the house, four suspected robbers arrested by the police at a popular Lagos market have claimed that they did not steal from the traders, but only came to collect their dues.
The suspects – Onyenge Osanie, Azuka Eboh, Ezelonwu Michael and Afolabi Shakiru – who are just four out of a ten-man gang, were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos police command while robbing traders at the Alaba International Market, Ojo, on December 20.
