Gov Sula Lamido of Jigawa state commissions Shiroro bridge built by Niger state government

Gov Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has commissioned the Shiroro bridge constructed across River Kaduna to link the immediate communities in Shiroro Local Government area in Niger State and beyond, built at the cost of N1.56billion.

The bridge, built by Niger State government, was commissioned by the Jigawa State governor,Thursday.

Governor Lamido said that the bridge will ease the movement of people in the area as well the transportation of goods to other parts of the state in particular and Nigeria in general. He said it will also reduce the loss of life along the axis.

He said no society will grow and develop without a good network of  roads.

He said the Niger State government took the wise decision to construct the bridge, having seen the agony of the people while crossing the river.

The host, Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, on his part,  said the bridge was one of the outstanding projects of his administration which has direct bearing on the lives of the people.

Governor Babangida said that this was done to save lives in the area and as well encourage economic activities in that axis.

He added that the project was also another way of entrenching democracy by making people to be committed to the system.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner of Works and Infrastructural Development, Alh. Mu’azu Bawa, said that the bridge, which is 435 metres long with access road of 1.59km, was financed through the N9billion bond collected from the capital market by the present administration as a result of the economic melt down at that period.

The Shiroro bridge will enhance rural transportation and boost socio-economic activities in the area as well as obviate the risk in crossing the river using boats, canoes, and ferries.

The bridge, which is one of the mega projects of the state government, will serve more than 25 communities in three contiguous LGAs in the area, namely Shiroro, Munya  and Rafi LGAs.
