Fual Scarcity: Petrol Transporters Suspend Strike Action

Following payment of N156bn subsidy arrears owed them by the federal government, oil marketers say petrol transporters have agreed to call off their strike, Punch reports.

They however warned that the strike situation would continue in two weeks’ time except the balance of N200bn is paid.

“This is not a threat. It is, however, a legitimate demand from us to our debtors. Although the strike action is being called off by the transporters, we still have a N200.2bn outstanding. With the calling off of the action, lifting of products will commence in collaboration with the transporters," the Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers of Nigeria, Mr. Thomas Olawore, said.

“But the transporters are insisting that if they wait for some days without their balance being paid, they will cancel the suspension of the strike action and return to status quo.”
