Balogun Market Fire: Agbaje Promises Lagosians More Organised Yet Affordable Markets
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje yesterday promised to build more affordable markets in the state, if elected as governor on February 28.
Agbaje said this at the Balogun Market, when he went there to commiserate with victims of the fire outbreak. He decried the condition of some markets and the plight of traders in the state.
“I will not only build more and affordable markets to meet up with expansions in the state like Jakande did, I will ensure that they have basic amenities. I feel the plight of the traders in Lagos, selling in markets that lacks basic amenities including water, toilets and motor able roads,” Agbaje said.
“We must find solution to incessant fire outbreaks in markets in Lagos,” he said.
Agbaje stressed the need for markets to be organised. He blamed some of the problems faced by traders in Lagos on ‘vested interest.’
“In any place where you have vested interest, it affects the life of the people limiting the state from realising it’s maximum potentials,” the governorship candidate said.
An early morning fire had on Monday grazed about 150 shops and buildings in the Balogun market leading to the loss of goods estimated to be worth billions of naira.
