Governorship aspirants under the
umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara have expressed their
resolve to ensure that the party wins the 2015 governorship election in
the state.
They are the Chairman, Senate Committee
on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Senator Simeon Ajibola; a
delegate to the just concluded National Conference, Mr. John Dara;
Chairman, Lubcon Group, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim; and a former Kwara State
Commissioner for Housing, Alhaji Kale Belgore
The aspirants claimed that the state had long been subjected to bad governance and misrule.
They spoke at a political summit
entitled, ‘Vision for a new Kwara: Unveiling post 2015 agenda for
development and prosperity,’ in Ilorin, on Thursday.
They alleged that residents had been
subjected to the rule of ‘one man’ or dictatorship and had not
benefitted substantially from the dividends of democracy.
Ajibola, who is senator representing
Kwara-South senatorial district, said it was imperative to ensure that
the local government funds were not tampered with by the state
government, adding that the state government should rather oversee how
the funds were spent.
Dara said, “We have suffered for too
long because of wrong choices. We must choose people of integrity and
people with vision and capacity to deliver. Our state has been
misgoverned for too long,” he said.
The Chairman, Freedom Group, Kwara PDP
chapter, Mr. Kunle Sulaiman, urged politicians to avoid violence and
work for the unity of the state.
He said Kwara residents were yearning for change.
“Kwara is indeed unique but has been
held down by a dysfunctional political class that has yet to discover
its relevance in the destiny of our dear state. However, the present
dispensation offers us a fresh opportunity and a new beginning,” he
said.
