We’ll continue to tolerate Obasanjo –PDP

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has said it will continue to tolerate former president Olusegun Obasanjo despite his sustained criticism of the party.

At a recent session with market women in the South-West zone at his Abeokuta residence in Ogun State capital, the former president accused the PDP-led Federal Government of squandering the nation’s foreign reserves.

Last Friday, Chief Obasanjo also endorsed Ogun State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Ibikunle Amosun for next month’s governorship election, as against Gboyega Isiaka, the PDP candidate.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metuh, said the party would not reprimand the former president, but would rather tolerate him.

Metuh said: “We have tremendous respect for him, our party brought him to reckoning. We have ruled for 16 years with achievements and some of them made under Chief Obasanjo administration.

“So, we won’t accuse him in public. We appreciate him and we want his support.”

The PDP national publicity scribe also dismissed insinuations in certain quarters that the Federal Government decided to reduce the pump price of petroleum products to win the sympathy of Nigerians ahead next month’s elections.

Metuh told newsmen that it was purely an economic decision informed by the fall in crude oil in the international oil market.
