Declaring that he has no interest in politics, Enugu-based veteran actor, Pete Edochie, has expressed the need for the federal government to sponsor a film on the bestial activities of Boko Haram in the country.

Edochie who came into limelight after playing the lead actor, Okonkwo, in Chinua Achebe’s classic novel turned-serial-movie, ‘Things Fall Apart’ made this declaration against the backdrop of influx of entertainers into politics.
Speaking recently with HVP in Yenagoa, the veteran actor said, while he is actively involved in acting and movie making, he has no interest in politics for now.

According to him. “For my fellow Nollywood actors going into politics, well, kudos to them. As for me, I am not interested in politics for now. I have not yet retired from acting despite my seemingly absence for a while.

Calling on the government to sponsor a film on Boko Haram menace in the country, Edochie said, “We want government to sponsor a huge film on Boko-Haram. Boko-Haram insurgence claims they want to establish an Islamic caliphate.

I don’t think there’s any God that would want to enjoin his followers to be decapitating heads, killing people, No! I think that’s a wrong interpretation of Islam. I would want my friends from the northern part of the country where Islam is the main religion and west where Islam also thrives to help us in defining the religion so that if we embark on producing a film on Boko Haram we shall make no mistake. And I believe that the incumbent administration will sponsor the production.

There has always been a truce and for us to effect a change and cultivate harmonious relationship among various religious bodies, there has to be a film on Boko-Haram to show that people have been indoctrinated negatively.”
