Chibok: Parents Of Abducted Girls Return Home Confused
Days after the combined forces of vigilante and Nigeria soldiers had helped to reclaim the ceased town of Chibok from the Boko Haram terrorists, parents of the abducted girls have begun to return to their homes amidst bewilderment about what becomes of their abducted daughters, LEADERSHIP Sunday reports.
Boko Haram had two weeks ago invaded the beleaguered town of Chibok, where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted and taken to destination unknown since the 14th of April, 2014, and sacked the villagers, killing many and hoisted their flags.
Though the Boko Haram conquest of Chibok barely lasted 48 hours before the military and local vigilante staged a counter offensive that forced the terrorists to flee, some of the residents are still finding it difficult to return as they still fear for possible attacks.
One of the parents of the abducted girls, Mr Lucky Chibok, said he was able to make it back to Chibok few days back even as he noted that their fears for the safety of their abducted daughters had never worsen till after Boko Haram came to sack them from their town.
“We are beginning to return home gradually, but many people are still outside in Biu town where they ran to seek refuge”, Lucky said. “We are all in tortured state of minds, because we now fear more that anytime else for the safety of our daughters who are still in the hands of these wicked people”.
He said the way and manner the terrorists stormed the town and began to shoot at everyone had made most of them worry if their girls were still safe at all.
“If we are told that these trigger happy Boko Haram gunmen who went out of control as they attacked our town are still the ones keeping our abducted daughter, we would not believe that they can ever be safe. But we still pray and entrust them unto the hands of God wherever they may be today, and we all pray and hope that one day we would reunite with them”, he said.
