Anglican Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Rt. Rev Daniel Yisa calls for constitutional role for president-elect

The Anglican  Bishop of Minna Diocese, Rt. Rev Daniel Yisa, has called on the Federal Government to make constitutional provisions carving a role for the president-elect in the waiting period before his official inauguration, in order to avoid the emergence of a parallel government.

Rt. Rev Yisa, who stated this while delivering his charge during the 7th session of the 9th synod of the Anglican diocese of Minna held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peters, Minna, expressed concern over the lack of proper legislation on what a president-elect can do while waiting to be inaugurated.

He said that a situation whereby a president-elect was receiving  visitors, including foreign envoys even before his official inauguration, amounts to a parallel government, ascribing this situation to  the silence of the constitution on the role of the president-elect.

The bishop congratulated Nigerians for a peaceful general election, and called on the winners at various levels to live up to their promises to the electorate, warning that Nigerians are wiser now. He said any politician that failed to live up to people’s expectations shall be shown the way out at next election.

He called for the prosecution of anyone found involved in corrupt practices and quick dispensation of justice for those before the courts.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for living up to his words that his aspiration was not worth the life of any Nigeria, by conceding defeat even before the final announcement of the results.

The synod is the annual gathering of both the priests and the laity to discuss issues bordering on the progress of the church and the welfare of the members.

There were also good will messages from sister dioceses across the country. About N12.4 million was realized during the launch of the bishop’s charge, the official address of the diocesan bishop.
