Men of the Ondo State Police Command have apprehended a 20-year-old suspected rapist, Tumi Ayileka, who allegedly raped a two-month old pregnant National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at Imoru in Ose local government area of the state.
Ayileka, who claimed to be an Okada rider in the community, was among the 27 suspected criminals paraded by the State Commissioner of Police, Isaac Eke during his monthly press conference held in Akure, the State Capital yesterday. Eke informed that the rape victim (name withheld) boarded a motorcycle from Ifon to Imoru where she was posted to by the NYSC.
He narrated that the suspected rapist allegedly dragged her into the bush and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. Confessing to the crime, Ayileka admitted that he raped the young youth corps member unknowingly. He said it was his first time of committing the crime , saying he even still drove the victim home after the act had been carried out.
According to him, “she approached me around 7.p.m at Ifon that I should take her to Imoru community where she serves and I obliged after agreeing on N500 charges fee. On our away going, I don’t know the spirit that fell on me and I don’t know when I rode her inside the bush and have carnal knowledge of her.
“Immediately after that incident, the spirit went off and I was ashamed of myself. I didn’t know she was pregnant before and I even took her home. Later on, she reported to the Police station and I was arrested. I don’t know the spirit that fell on me because I have never done that before”.
The Police Commissioner assured that the suspect would soon be charged to court as soon as the judiciary workers end their industrial strike.
Eke, also paraded three suspected criminals who were involved in the snatching of a N4million BMW car belonging to the Permanent Secretary of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Sola Orisanmoluwa at gun point.
He said Orisanmoluwa was attacked by two gang of armed robbers, whose leader was identified as Seun but still large now.
He explained that they snatched the car at gun point from the owner when he was driving around Ijoka in Akure, adding that they also stole clothes, sandals and shoes valued at N60,000, one Tecno P 5 worth N22,000, National I.D card, Driving Licence and a Wema Bank cheque books which were inside the car.
Eke said “on receipt of this case, detectives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) swung into Action and through intelligence gathering, one Olubunmi Ojo was arrested within Akure and the complainant’s handset was recovered from him. He led the detectives to one Adekunle Ojo who he claimed gave him the handset.
“Upon interrogation Adekunle Ojo confessed to the Commission of the crime and mentioned other members of the gang. He led the detectives to Ona-Ola street in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State where the robbed BMW was recovered from one Isaac Fadairo, who acted as the license officer.
The car owner, Orisanmoluwa disclosed that the suspects were about selling the car at Ado-Ekiti at N750,000 price before it was recovered.
