2015 AFCON update: Ghana beaten by Senegal, Algeria come from behind to beat South Africa

Avram Grant started life as Ghana coach with a defeat after his Black Stars team succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Senegal at the ongoing 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

Senegal came from a goal down to score a last minute goal that earned them victory and all three points against Ghana.

Missing their captain Asamoah Gyan who is suffering from an injury, Ghana looked like they would struggle to get goals.

However Ghana took the lead after 12 minutes, Christain Atsu was brought down in the box by Senegalese goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul .

And Andre Dede Ayew stepped up and converted from the spot to give them the lead.

Ghana had a couple of chances to extend their lead through Atsu and Jonathan Mensah, but didn't take them, and at the other end Senegal came close by striking the post.

However the door opened for Senegal after Stoke City striker Mame Diouf followed up his effort that came off the post to head into the net for 1-1.

Mensah made an error that almost cost his side, but Diouf wasted the effort, blazing way into the stands.

And just when it looked as though the game was destined for a 1-1 draw, Senegal popped up in stoppage time to score the winner.

Fenerbahce's striker Moussa Sow came off the bench to net the winner for Alain Giresse's team.

Meanwhile in the other game of the group, Algeria defeated South Africa 3-1 to go tops of the perceived group of death.

Seen by many as the favourites to win the competition, the Desert Foxes took their chances as they came and won.

The Bafana Bafana were guilty of missed efforts, with Tokelo Rantie the biggest culprit in the match for South Africa.

Dean Furman came close for the Bafana Bafana, hitting the crossbar, while Algerian goalkeeper M'bolhi had to make good saves in the first half to keep them out.

However, South Africa eventually broke the deadlock through Thuso Phala who opened the scores in the 50th minute.

And coach Shakes Mashaba's team had an opportunity to double their lead but missed a penalty that could have extended their lead to 2-0, with Rantie wasting the effort.

An own goal from South African player, Hlatshwayo brought Algeria back into the game with an equaliser.

Faouzi Ghoulam then gave Algeria the lead with a well taken goal that punished South Africa for their wasted efforts.

The victory was assured for Algeria when Islam Slimani's effort slipped through Keet's hands for the third goal.

South Africa will be ruing their missed chances that could have seen them out of sight even before Algeria equalised.
