Obasanjo insists Nigeria in ‘bad situation’ during PDP Governors’ visit

The meeting which five serving governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, has ended with the former President insisting that Nigeria is in a “bad situation.”

Smarting from the meeting which lasted over three hours, Obasanjo addressed reporters, disclosing that the state of the country is bad at the moment. He was however quick to note that it is “not irretrievably bad if there is the will and courage to do the right thing at the right time.”
As regards what transpired at his close-door meeting with the governors, the elder statesman disclosed that he and the governors deliberated on “issues affecting the country- the security, the economy among others as Nigerians have no other country except Nigeria.”

He opined that one does not need to be a World Bank economist or an International Monetary Fund (IMF) expert before appreciating the fact that the nation’s economy is ailing and require the will and courage by the managers not only to tell the truth to the nation, but also proffer the feasible way out.

It was earlier reported that the five governors led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Godswill Akpabio arrived the Hilltop Presidential mansion of Obasanjo by 12: 40 pm and headed straight to a secret meeting with the former leader. Other governors on the team include: Liyel Imoke, Isa Yuguda, Sule Lamido, and Babangida Aliu of Cross River, Bauchi, Jigawa and Niger States respectively.

An informed source however insisted that the meeting was to get Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan on the same page ahead of the 2015 presidential election. Both men have remained at ”arms length” with the former president not hiding his dissatisfaction with the government and the administrative style of the incumbent.
