Gunmen Allegedly Flog CAC Pastor On Command of Rival Pastor
At the Christ Apostolic Church, Pillar of Fire, in LA Primary School area, Akure, robbers stormed a service, destroyed property and made away with the day's offerings. The punch newspaper says the attackers came in with weapons and whips and beat up the pastor, Arije, and his members to a pulp.
While it is unclear the reason for the attack, there is reason to suspect that a rival pastor sponsored the attack. According to eyewitness accounts, the hoodlums burst into the church on motorbikes and destroyed church items including plastic chairs, wall clocks, windows and church equipment.
Members who tried to escape were severely injured. Policemen who came to their rescue were also attacked, and the attackers arrested were freed. Wole Ogodo, PR Officer of the Police said that one of his policemen were stabbed with a broken bottle as they chased the armed men to Odopetu, Oke Aro.
