See How Soldier Killed University of Maiduguri Student And Stole His Car
Mohammed Konto popularly known as M-Kas, a graduate of physics from University of Maiduguri awaiting his call-up letter from NYSC was reportedly shot dead by a soldier in Maiduguri.
According to his father, Alhaji Konto Sulum, the incident happened on Wednesday, November 5 at about 6 p.m. when his 22-year-old son gave the soldier a ride in his car, Punch reports.
The soldier was said to have asked Mohammed for a ride so that he could get to his duty post on time but before he got to the point where he’d alight, he shot the student and made away with the car.
Addressing newsmen, Sulum said: “The soldier, who thought he (Mohammed) was dead, dragged his corpse out of the car and zoomed off with his car. My son crawled down by the roadside near Asita Hotel in Bolori, where a good Samaritan called the attention of Civilian JTF and they tried to rush him to the hospital, but he gave up the ghost before reaching the hospital.
“Before my son died, he informed the Civilian JTF that he was shot by a soldier, who had run away with his car. The next day, his friend saw the soldier and his friend at Oando filing station, Baga Road, with the car, and they alerted Civilian JTF and they arrested them.”
The father is calling for a probe into his son’s death.
A source in the army who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident, saying both the suspect and his accomplice had been arrested and would be prosecuted soon.
His mates from the Department of Physics described him as a cool-headed person that was not in any way troublesome. May his soul rest in peace.
