Robbers attack bullion van in Ondo State and escape with huge sum of money
Suspected armed bandits have reportedly attacked a bullion van loaded with cash at Elemoso village along Ondo–Akure road in Ondo East local government area of the state.
Eye witness said the hoodlums looted the bullion van and escaped with undisclosed amount of money.
The bullion van and the escort vehicle were said to have been ridden with bullets in the incident, which occurred at about 4:50pm.
The armed robbers were said to have escaped with the cash supposedly belonging to one of the oldest banks in the country.
A source said the policemen were caught unawares after the armed robbers shot sporadically at the police escorts’ van and the bullion van simultaneously.
The policemen and the driver of the van it was learnt escaped from the scene immediately the bandits opened fire on them.
The operation was said to have lasted for only seven minutes.
However,it was learnt that a middle aged man, who was coming from Ondo town was hit by the bullets and sustained injuries.
Also, another school proprietor in the area, who was said to be coming from a mechanic workshop in Ondo town with his Toyota Sienna Bus with registration Number AA733FTD, ran into the hoodlums, who opened fire on him and his car.
They were said to have been rushed to the general hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
Police Commissioner, Isaac Eke, described the attack as shocking, stressing that his men had launched a manhunt to arrest the robbers.
Eke, however, said the command suspected conspiracy in the attack, noting that official bookings of security was not made at the police Operations Department before the assignment was carried out. The CP vowed that his men would soon arrest and bring the hoodlums to book.
