                         FG Pledges To Support Nigerian Navy With More Equipment
Nigerian Navy, The Federal Government has pledged to support the Nigerian Navy with more equipment to effectively secure the nation’s maritime environment.
This pledge was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Defense, Aliyu Ismaila Numan, who represented President Goodluck Jonathan, during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Chief of Naval Staff Annual Conference that took place in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.

The Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of the state, Yomi Awoniyi, in his address charged the participants at the conference to fashion out ways that will transform the Navy into a credible Naval Force that is in line with the nation’s aspiration.

Representative of the President, Mr Numan said the nation’s maritime interests are threatened by various form of insecurity, especially piracy, illegal bunkering, crude oil theft, illegal fishing and proliferation of small arms.

He said efforts are being geared towards equipping the Nigerian Navy to enable it meet global best practices, global strategic contest, technological advancement in line with current global security challenge.

The Director, Nigeria Navy Transformation Office, Rear Admiral HA Babalola delivered the lead paper at the conference on the topic “Nigeria Navy Transformation Plan-Implementation Milestones and the Way Forward”
