Total Oil CEO Dies In Plane Crash
The Chief Executive Officer of Total oil, Christophe de Margerie is dead. 63-year-old De Margerie was killed when a private jet conveying him and three crew members collided with a snow plough at the Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow, Russia on Monday, October 20.
The deceased was in Moscow to attend a Russian government meeting on foreign investment.
News of the crash was confirmed by airport spokeswoman Elena Krylova, who said:
Tonight a plane crashed when it collided with a snow-clearing machine, Three crew members and a passenger died. I can confirm that the passenger was Total’s head De Margerie.
The oil company has also issued a statement confirming the death of its CEO. It reads:
Total confirms with deep regret and great sadness that chairman and CEO Christophe de Margerie died just after 10pm (Paris time) on October 20 in a private plane crash at Vnukovo airport in Moscow, following a collision with a snow removal machine.
The accident reportedly occurred just as the plane was about to take off and Moscow transport investigators have opened a criminal probe into the incident after the driver of the snow plough was found to be drunk.
