Ebola Updates: Lagos State Gov’t Urges Pupils To Cultivate The Habit Of Washing Hands

                             
In order to ensure that the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease doesn’t find its way back into the state again, the Lagos State Government has advised pupils in the state to cultivate the habit of washing their hands regularly.

This was made known by the state’s commissioner for education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Falomo Senior Secondary School, Ikoyi, Lagos during a symbolic hand washing exercise to mark the 2014 Global Hand Washing Day Celebration.


The programme was hosted by the United Nations Information Centre in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Nigeria.

Oladunjoye said there was a need for pupils to maintain a good personal and environmental hygiene, adding that the outcome of their academic performances depended largely on their state of health..

She said: “There is a need for you all to maintain personal and environmental hygiene. It will also affect the outcome of your academic performances.

“Also, you can only be what you want to be through hardwork and determination as there is no short cut to success. I therefore work hard in your study as that is the only route to attaining success in life.”

Meanwhile, the special adviser to the governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina during a speech at the event enlightened the pupils across the state to maintain a hygienic living on the basis that it helps to curtail further outbreak of diseases.

Further speaking at the event, the representative of the UNIC, Envera Selimovic  who said she was happy to be among the privileged few that participated in the Global Hand Washing Day celebration.

She commended the government for taking measures which helped to contain the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria adding that pupils should ensure to wash their hands frequently with the facilities provided by the government to schools.
