  The National Association of Nigerian Students has advised South African President, Jacob Zuma, to stay away from the inauguration of the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari.
The organisation also threatened to storm the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport, Abuja, should Zuma step into the country’s airport.

According to the association, Zuma should keep off as his visit will be an insult to the sensibility of Nigerians over his alleged poor handling of the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other migrant foreigners in South Africa.

Nigerian Government releases N5billion to purchase stoves for rural women

The Federal government of Nigeria has released N5billion for the purchase of stoves for rural women across the country, under the National Clean Cooking Scheme, a programme launched by FG to discourage the use of Firewood for cooking.

Announcing the release of the funds, Minister of Environment, Laurientia Mallam, speaking during an inspection visit to the Velodrome at the National Stadium, Abuja, where some of the 750,000 stoves were being assembled, said the stoves will be distributed through the various Ministries of Environment.

The armed personnel came in the guise of maintaining peace and order, but they soon abandoned their primary responsibility for fuel racket. They shoved, maltreated and sent away those who were on queue to be attended to, thereby gaining access to have their drums loaded with fuel.

FG of Nigeria pays N373bn as settlement to former PHCN workers

The Nigerian government has disbursed over N373 billion as payment of entitlements to former staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

This was disclosed by the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Benjamin Dikki.
Dikki made the disclosure during a meeting with the National Union of Electricity Employees of Nigeria (NUEE) in Abuja.

University of Ibadan (UI) closed for 2 weeks due to fuel scarcity

Authorities of the University of Ibadan , (UI) on Monday asked its students to vacate the premises immediately, pending the time the problem of shortage of water and electricity would be addressed.
The directive was issued to students following ‎an advice given by the Committee of Provosts and Deans to the university’s management.

The Director of Communication of the institution, Mr Muhammed Oladejo ,who confirmed the development, said the management only asked the students to proceed on a two-week mid-semester break.
The students of Independence Hall of the institution had in the early hours of Monday stage a protest.
The students complained that they were facing hard time as a result of shortage of water and electricity.

Mass graves found in migrant trafficking camps in Malaysia(Photos)

 Malaysian authorities said Sunday that they have discovered a series of graves in at least 17 abandoned camps used by human traffickers on the border with Thailand where Rohingya Muslims fleeing Myanmar have been held.

There was also a similar discovery earlier this month by police in Thailand who dug out dozens of bodies from shallow graves in abandoned camps on the Thai side of the border. The gory discoveries are shedding new light on the hidden network of jungle camps run by traffickers, who have for years held countless desperate people captive while extorting ransoms from their families.

About 50 people killed during an attack by unknown gunmen in host communities of IDP camps in Benue State

 No fewer than 50 people were killed yesterday May 24th after armed men believed to be members of Fulani militia stormed Logo local government area of Benue State where some Internally Displaced Persons are being kept. The men reportedly shot and killed at will.

According to reports, the armed men destroyed churches, cars, houses, market places during their attack which lasted for about an hour. Iorza, Faga, Per and Ukura Villages in the local government area where the IDPs are taking refuge after fleeing their villages following attacks, were affected.

Spokesman of the Benue State Police Command, ASP Austin Ezeani while confirming the incident said he could not ascertain the number of casualties.

Oil marketers back to work to begin lifting of petroleum product in 6 hours

The major oil marketers association of Nigeria (MOMAN),Nigeria union of petroleum and natural gas workers (NUPENG) and the petroleum and natural gas senior staff association (PENGASSAN) have agreed to call off the strike.

They have also reached an agreement with the federal government to begin lifting of petroleum products across the country “in six hours”.

According to Magnus Abe, chairman of the senate committee on petroleum resources, the resolution was reached after a meeting of MOMAN and the committee with‎ Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy; Joseph Dawha, group managing director of the Nigeria national petroleum corporation (NNPC) and major stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.

A girl shoot dead by boyfriend after her parents asked for bride price

An ex-vigilante boss identified as Uche (surname withheld) has allegedly killed his girlfriend over a new born baby at the weekend.

Trouble started when the suspect demanded custody of his baby without paying her mother’s bride price and her parents refused to release the baby.
The suspect, who was a security man at her street in GRA, Onitsha, fell in love with the girl before he was sacked from the duty in December 2014.
When the parents of the girl asked him to pay the bride price to formalize the marriage, he allegedly brought out a gun and shot the girl in the chest.

But for the intervention of the police, two suspected kidnappers would have been lynched in the Odoyanta, Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State on Sunday for allegedly kidnapping a fish farmer.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the fish farmer, identified only as Kowope, was attacked in his farm by the suspects at about 7am.

Our correspondent gathered that the men, who wielded cutlasses and charms, had told their victim that they were policemen from the Igbeba Police Division, adding that he should “cooperate” with them.
However, 30-year-old Kowope was said to have demanded the ‘officers’ ID cards, which reportedly led to a fight. The suspected kidnappers, said to be three, reportedly overpowered Kowope and tied his legs with a chain.

Scientists revealed two cups of coffee a day as a secret to great sex

 Drinking just two cups of coffee a day could dramatically improve your sex life, a university study has concluded. A study by the University of Texas has found that men who drank two cups a day where 42 per cent less likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction compared to men. 

For an article for the American science journal PLOS ONE, scientists studied 4,000 men drinking caffeinated drinks including coffee, tea, fizzy and sports drinks and found the result was the same regardless of weight, age or blood pressure. 

Scientists believe it could be because the caffeine triggers a chemical reaction that increases blood flow to the penis by relaxing muscles. But two cups might be the limit as the researchers also found the result dipped slightly to 39 per cent for men drinking three a day.

APC National Chairman John Oyegun says General Buhari needs N4.1tn for salaries, others

National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, said the incoming All Progressives Congress administration will require about N4.1trillion to offset part of the debt left behind by the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan administration. He said this during a retreat for Senators elected on the party’s platform, in Abuja, on Saturday.

He explained that the Buhari administration would require the funds to pay the outstanding salaries of public servants at the state and federal levels, fuel subsidies, as well as debt servicing, among other expenses.
Oyegun urged Senators to be prepared to pass requisite laws at short notices, in the course of their duty in the National Assembly.

Prince Buruji Kashamu said that he would rather die than be extradited to the US

Senator-elect, Ogun-East, Prince Buruji Kashamu, was said to have threatened to kill himself if officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) forced their way into his house, yesterday, claiming there was a court injunction against the NDLEA’s action.
