Meet 14 Year Old Zandra Azariah Cunningham Who Owns a Beauty Line – Zandra Beauty
14-year-old ‘teen-preneur’ Zandra Azariah Cunningham’s has always been passionate about beauty. When she was 10 years old. she had asked her dad to buy her some makeup products as she was just discovering her love for makeup. To her dismay he refused telling she used it up too fast and that instead she should make her own. Those were the words that indirectly inspired Zandra to come up with a string of ideas that made her the young entrepreneur she is today with her company – Zandra Beauty.
With a $500 business loan from her parents, she started on her journey to turning her hobby into a growing business. Her thriving company offers natural solutions for skincare, hair care and beauty needs for young and growing women of all races.
In an interview with Black Enterprise, Zandra tells us how she did it. From turning her dad’s “No” into her driving force, juggling school and her business, funding and more, she explains how she garnered her growing success.
Read excerpts below:
On her inspiration to go into entrepreneurship
My dad because he said NO! But my mom made me realize, my hobby could be so much more.
On funding for her business
That’s one of the coolest things I learned from Kid Biz, how to borrow from the bank of mom and dad. My dad loaned me $500 to buy my first real supplies.
On juggling business, friends, school etc
Time is my biggest sacrifice. I still feel like I am living the teen-age life but I just don’t have all the extra time to do stuff that other teens do. But I know it’s all worth it.
I have had to miss out on a ton of fun stuff. My friends always invite me to their dinners or parties. They go to the mall or movies and a lot of the time I have to make product or go to an event to sell it. They didn’t understand it at first, but over the years it has gotten easier. Now, they come to work with me sometimes and I have more free time to hang out with them.
Her advice for other young people on business
You’re never too young. You need a network of like-minded people, some start up money and your grand idea.
There are tons of free resources out there for kids to learn about business. If you can learn snap chat and how to play video games, then you can research how to make your idea come to life.
Don’t accept no for an answer but seek wise help from people you trust. It’s not easy but if you involve your friends they may help you. I am building a program called Z + ME, which is an ambassador program. This program will enlist other teen girls who want to start a business and give back to girl’s education and their communities.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday said his administration had nothing to hide in respect of the claim by a former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Lamido Sanusi, that $20bn oil money was not remitted to the Federation Account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

With the constitution’s help, PDP hopes to produce new Speaker of House of Reps
While the All Progressives Congress delays in agreeing on candidates for National Assembly leadership, the Peoples Democratic Party is reportedly planning to field a candidate on June 6 when an election would be held to pick a new speaker for the House of Representatives.
According to a report by Vanguard newspapers, the PDP caucus has held series of meetings in different locations within Abuja to strategise on how the party can present a speakership candidate to sidestep the APC.
The strategy of the PDP is believed to be hinged on Section 50(b) of the 1999 constitution, as amended, where it is expressly stated that the lawmakers shall pick their leaders among themselves.

“Dear Buhari, You Cannot Fight Corruption With Corruption” - By Femi Aribisala
This leopard has not changed its skin. It is asking much to expect Buhari to change his habits at the ripe old age of 72. Buhari is already caught in his own anti-corruption hogwash. Anti-corruption is likely to become a Pandora’s Box of unanticipated wahala for the in-coming administration.
One of the myths about the 2015 presidential election is that it was a vote against corruption. Buhari and the APC did a good job of singing the anti-corruption mantra all over the country, and they gave everyone the impression that a vote for the APC was a vote against corruption. But this impression is neither supported by the character of the APC itself, nor by the manner by which it secured its famous victory. Voters in 2015 were not confronted with anti-corruption choices. There were no new breed politicians in the APC class of 2015. The overwhelming majority of those who fought and won the elections were the same old, same old. If the 15.4 million people who allegedly voted for Buhari are now supposed to be anti-corruption, then Nigeria is in trouble because 12.8 million people voted against him. That would constitute an equally big vote for corruption.
PDP releases press statement on AIT ban, says it's dangerous for democracy

Press statement from the PDP on AIT ban, which the APC has since lifted..
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as unacceptable the Monday’s directive by the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to bar a television house, the AIT, from covering his activities, saying the suppression of the media under any guise portends danger for the nation’s democracy.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said that after carefully studying the defence posited by General Buhari’s campaign spokesperson as well as the smokescreen statement by the APC to cover and mitigate his anti-media posture, the PDP and indeed all lovers of democracy are persuaded that the action was not only unjustifiable, but also unconstitutional and completely against the spirit of liberty and the rule of law in a democracy.

The reports by some media outfits claiming that terrorists are now in control of Mafa in Borno State are false. The truth is that an attempt by a group of fleeing terrorists who strayed towards the town and engaged in their typical suicide attack was duly repelled by troops. Similarly, the claim by some media organisations that terrorists chased out troops and took over Marte cannot be verified as troops were busy elsewhere during the said attack.
