Nigerian ‘Witch Doctor sentence to 14yrs in prison by US Court for Providing Juju to Cocaine Traffickers

A US Court has sentenced a Nigerian man who prosecutors say portrayed himself as a “witch doctor” to 14 years in prison for collecting hundreds of thousands of dollars from cocaine traffickers looking to get supernatural protection from authorities.

According to AP, Christopher Omigie, a naturalized U.S. citizen who had been living in Lafayette, Louisiana, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Beaumont, Texas. He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

In a gruesome case of cold blooded murder, a Nigerian ,Terry Agaga, was brutally murdered in Padova, Italy. According to Italian media, the 34 year old was killed over a woman in a black club ‘Le Parisien’ popularly called ‘Port Harcourt club’ by Nigerians.

According to eye witness, Terry, who got his Italian residence permit of stay in Sept 2014, got killed because of an argument over a girl.He was said to have fallen inlove with a girl whose previous boyfriend is a cultist.The ex-boyfriend was enraged for losing his girl to Terry .

When the scorned boyfriend met Terry at a club, they were involved in a physical fight and he ended up being stabbed to death with a machete. The Italian police are still investigating the killing of Terry and three Nigerians have been arrested so far.

Pres. Jonathan’s mother hails JTF for donating borehole to Bayelsa community

Mrs. Eunice Jonathan, the mother of President Goodluck Jonathan, has commended the Joint Task Force for donating a borehole to Akipelai community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

The borehole, which is sited at the premises of the Community Secondary School, Akipelai, was inaugurated by Jonathan’s mother, a native of the community. She thanked the JTF Commander for his efforts towards eradicating illegalities in the Niger Delta region.

Fuel Crisis: Marketers deny receiving payment from govt, say strike continues

 Despite the claim by the Federal Government that N156 billion was released on Thursday to oil marketers to facilitate the quick resolution of the current fuel crisis, the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), has said normal lifting of fuel will not resume till their members’ accounts are duly credited by the banks.

As at 4.35 p.m. on Thursday, the Executive Secretary, Depot & Petroleum Products Marketers Association(DAPPMA), Odufemi Adewole, told PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview that none of its members and their counterparts in the Major Oil Marketers Association(MOMAN), had confirmed receiving any payment.

“The money government said it was paying to marketers has not yet hit our accounts. So, there is little we can do about the situation,” Mr, Adewole said. “The money the Minister of Finance promised to pay us last February did not get into our hands till about four or five weeks later.

South African Police Arrest Nearly 200 Illegal Immigrants to Curb Xenophobic Violence

South African police and soldiers on Thursday arrested nearly 200 illegal immigrants.The criminal roundup came amid efforts by police to focus on immigrant neighbourhoods to prevent further xenophobic violence.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the arrest started after no fewer than seven migrants from other African countries were killed in such violence earlier this month.

“The migrants were arrested in the Thembelihle informal settlement, south of Johannesburg, which had been identified as a criminal hotspot,” police spokesman, Kay Makhubela said.

Police kill dog who attacked husband when it mistook rough sex for attack on wife

A pit bull was shot dead by police officers after it began attacking a husband who it thought was assaulting his wife - but she claims they were just having 'rough sex'.
Diane Manning says the dog was simply mistaken when it attacked her husband James, 31, at their home in New Jersey.

Police claim however that they were responding to a report of a woman screaming that she was being raped.When officers arrived at the home, the couple's agitated dog Lily attacked them - with police responding by shooting it dead.But in an interview with The Jersey Journal, Diane said that there was no attack on her.She added:

“The command wishes to inform the public that, in its effort to flush out the bad eggs from the force, it has arrested a serving member of the force, Cpl. Sani Salisu.

Despite death sentence many Nigerians attempt shipping drugs to Asia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said it saved 20 people from the death penalty in Asia by preventing them from smuggling drugs out of Nigeria.

In a statement Thursday, the agency said since January 2014, 19 Nigerians and a Ghanaian have been arrested in Nigerian airports attempting to smuggle 106,914 kilogrammes of narcotics.

“Sixteen of the suspects were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos while four others including a Ghanaian were caught at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu,” said Ahmadu Giade, NDLEA’s Chairman.

French soldiers accused of raping homeless and hungry children in Central African Republic – UN report

 French peacekeeping troops have been accused of raping homeless and hungry children in Central African Republic. Some of the children included boys as young as 9 who were allegedly sodomized.


   According to UK Guardian, a senior United Nations aid worker has been suspended for disclosing to prosecutors an internal report on the sexual abuse of children by French peacekeeping troops in the Central African Republic. Sources close to the case said Anders Kompass passed the document to the French authorities because of the UN’s failure to take action to stop the abuse. The report documented the sexual exploitation of children as young as nine by French troops stationed in the country as part of international peacekeeping efforts.

Man Commit Suicide By Hanging Himself Inside Uncompleted Buiding

 The lifeless body of a young man has been found in an uncompleted building on Sefu Elelede Street in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the man, whose name had yet to be known, was found hanged by an electrician, identified simply as John, who saw the corpse and raised alarm. He had come to inspect the house.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was found in jeans and shirt, hanged himself in the living room section of the uncompleted structure. His body was bloated when it was discovered.

Bullion Van Kills 22 Year Old Man In Abeokuta, Ogun State

A 22 year old motorcycle rider has been allegedly killed by a bullion van at Oke Ilewo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The incident reportedly caused violent reactions from some residents of the area.

According to eyewitness accounts, the middle aged man, simply identified as Gbenga Okesola, was on an errand for his elder brother when he was hit and killed by the bullion van.

The unfortunate incident happened on the Uhumudumun Road in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.

Ode-Irele Survivor Who Became Blind After Drinking Ogogoro

 One of the survivors of the Ode-Irele methanol poisoning, Mr. Olorunwa Jero, yesterday, recounted his ordeal in the throes of death.

Jero, a father of six, who is a vulcaniser, narrated: “By the time I was brought here, I had gone blind. I could not identify my wife, I could not identify anything. I did not even know when I arrived here.

“But I thank God and the management and staff of University College Hospital, UCH, for bailing me out. I can see all of you here clearly. I can even identify the clothes each one of you is putting on.” The victim commended the teaching hospital for its timely medical intervention which he said saved his life.

 On Thursday, April 30, a rare revelation was made by the coordinating minister of the economy and minister of finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
At the service of songs for Oronto Douglas, special adviser to the president on research and documentation, she revealed that she survived cancer 15 years ago.
During the event which was held in Abuja, Okonjo-Iweala stated that having cancer is not necessarily the end of life.
Okonjo-Iweala said: “Oronto and I had two similarities in life, we both had cancer. I had my last surgery, 15 years ago and I shared my experience with him,” she said.
She would also narrate how she used to encourage him with the fact that she was able to overcome the disease.

General Buhari’s Ex-Campaign Coordinator Assualted By DSS

The Anambra State Coordinator of the Muhammadu Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation in the 2007 presidential elections, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nwokoye, was on Monday brutalised by men of the Department of State Service.

The DSS operatives reportedly beat Nwokoye to the extent that his sight had been affected.

Nwokoye alleged that he was brutalised because he refused to release information about 22 expatriate medical doctors invited by the Anambra State government for free medical mission in the state.

As of the time of filing this report on Wednesday, Nwokoye was receiving treatment at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka.

A nine-year-old boy, identified only as Kingsley, was on Thursday abandoned at a filling station at Adetola bus stop on Ijaiye Road, Agbado, Lagos State, by his mother.

It was learnt that the mother, Blessing, allegedly tortured him for greeting a neighbour. She was said to have brought the boy from Ojuelegba, where they live and dumped him at the station around 7am.
Punch Metro gathered that Blessing left the area after telling the child that she wanted to buy some items at a nearby shop.

Some Good Samaritans, however, later bought food for the kid before he was taken to the Ijaiye Police Station around 11am.Kinglsey’s body was full of scars for which he held his mother responsible.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) plotting to sabotage smooth handover – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday accused the out-going President Goodluck Jonathan administration of plotting to hinder a smooth handover of power to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on May 29. President Goodluck Jonathan had, on Wednesday, accused the APC of acting like a parallel government and trying to stampede his administraton out of office by making impossible demands in the terms of reference of the President-elect’s transition committee.

Briefing newsmen after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Suleiman, a member of Jonathan’s transition committee, said the council frowned at the terms of reference of the in-coming government and warned that the President’s magnanimity should not be construed as cowardice. He said the council agreed that Dr Goodluck Jonathan remains the President of the country until May 29 and the in-coming government should avoid creating a parallel government.
